<div>What was supposed to be one of the happiest days of Kelli and her husband’s life turned into a nightmare that no family should ever have to endure. After giving birth to their beautiful baby, Kelli suffered massive internal bleeding that went unnoticed for far too long. By the time doctors realized what was happening, her life was hanging by a thread.

<div>She had to be placed on an ECMO machine — a form of life support that took over the work of her heart and lungs — just to survive. Against all odds, she has slowly made a miraculous recovery and, after weeks in the ICU, is now home with her husband, two other children and newborn. We are so grateful she is here with us today, but the journey ahead remains long and uncertain.

<div>Because of the trauma her body endured, Kelli is currently unable to care for her baby or return to work. She requires daily dialysis and may ultimately need a kidney transplant. She is on strict bedrest while her husband shoulders the full-time care of both his wife and their newborn. Soon he will have no choice but to return to work, leaving them uncertain about how they will manage childcare, medical needs, and daily living expenses.
