Fund raiser for Keith's accident

Tuesday, June 30th

I bought a fixer-upper...my very first home!!  Keith offered to help keep costs down by painting it for me...  The first day I got the keys, we went in and started painting so it could get done before moving day.

Things were moving right along and he had gotten most of the job done.  He was working on the top trim in the living room and the ladder slipped out from under him!  He fell so fast and hard, slamming on the floor from over 20 feet up!  Paint exploded everywhere.

The sound of the crash sent chills up my spine

He had excruciating pain throughout his body but noticed the extreme pain in his left foot and ankle.  Both legs were slashed and bleeding.   The kids were there - Johnny watched it happen - Presley was in tears - it was traumatic for everyone.

To know Keith, is to know that he is very proud and doesn't ever ask for help.  He is a strong, hard-working, and extremely passionate person. He is also self-employed and uninsured.  He chose not to go to the emergency room for fear of having an exorbitant bill...he wanted to wait it out and see how things went.  We got him home and have been alternating with ice, elevation, ibuprofen, and compression.  I found him some crutches at the thrift store so he can get around the house a little easier.

Well...it's been just over a week and the pain and swelling have gotten much worse, so we decided to at least get him some x-rays.  We went to urgent care and they said it is definitely broken in multiple areas.  We were referred to a Podiatrist and went for that office visit this morning.  When he examined the x-rays, he was shocked at the severity and unusual nature of all the breaks.  They ordered a CT Scan, in order to get a better idea on how to graph and screw the bones back together.  I have been putting these costs on my credit card, which is almost maxed out.

Since then we have been receiving the fees for the doctor, facility, and anesthesiologist.

The quote we got is over-whelming - the SELF PAY DISCOUNTED price is:

$22,446.23

...this is on top of the $840 I have already put on my credit card.

It might as well be a million since it's such an impossible number...

To make matters worse, neither one of us has been working much because of covid ...Keith hasn't been working since February since they closed all his gun shows.

- gun shows have been completely canceled through the rest of the year
- weddings have been rescheduling at a frightening rate
- Keith doesn't qualify for disability, the PPP, unemployment, or even Medicaid
- and now, he can't even paint houses because of this injury

My homeowner's policy only covers $2000 of medical expenses for people who don't live there.

Maybe it was incredibly naive, but we were hoping it would be more around $5-$8k, and could try to scrape together enough to put down the 60% they demand upfront and make payments on the rest.  What they're charging will be impossible

It's already been a week since the accident and the Doc wants him to have surgery on Monday 7.13 or Thursday 7.16 NEXT WEEK!

SO - we are asking for your help.  We KNOW times are tough for everyone!   Please help if you possibly can - we appreciate literally anything you can do.
