A Fight For Life, A Fight For Love

I've created this donation page for my truly wonderful parents. They both are the strongest fighters, biggest givers, and the most humble of human beings I've ever had the privilege of encountering. It is time for me to give back and to allow others to do so as well. Alonzo and Rose Keir are never individuals to ask anything of anyone but would give their last dollars or anything they had in order to help anyone, including myself. The unfortunate news is they have both been diagnosed with incurable diseases. My wonderful stepfather Alonzo was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon cancer in 2011. After several seemingly successful operations, things were looking up. Some of the cancer did remain but he denied partaking in any type of Chemo therapy because this would render him unable to take care of his wife. Alonzo, (being an independent business owner doing contracting, building and architecture,) is the sole bread-winner for the family. The chemo would make him too sick to work his highly physical job. My mother Rose, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in late 2010 is unable to work and often times unable to help herself with small tasks such as cooking, cleaning, or moving about the house. Alonzo loves my mother so much that he chose to take care of her over himself. What an amazing display of loyalty. This past month we received the devastating news that Alonzo's cancer had metastasized not only through out his colon but also to his liver and his lungs. The oncologists agreed that chemo or radiation treatment would not do much to treat him other than give him 'maybe' a few more months time. He has opted out of these treatments in order to keep living as happy as he can and work to provide as much as he can for his family before his heartbreaking departure. I've set this fund up as a surprise to them. They would never ask anyone to help them financially but as their daughter, I feel the need to provide as much as I can for them. It's the least I could do in return for the wonderful life, love and lessons they have given to me. Your donations will go towards things as small as helping them with groceries, medications, and to bigger things such as funeral arrangements and helping to move my mother back to California so she can get the care she requires. I hope this also helps in awareness of Colon Cancer and how important it is to get routine Colonoscopy exams. Multiple Sclerosis is still a very mysterious degenerative disease that affects more than we know. Please help my family in this time of need as you would hope for yours. I know with the growing economic crisis that we all have our own financial burdens and worries but anything helps and anything is better than nothing. Thank you so much. This is an absolutely devastating time for myself and my family. I just want to give them a gift that will not only help them but lighten their spirits in this time of hardship. God Bless.
