<div>Tree surgeon Paul Groves (of Groves Arborists) has been working tirelessly to make felled trees on site safe and making some of the areas of the site accessible again.

<div>Still blocked by fallen trees is our community tree nursery, where we grow native trees from seed. This area is going to be really vital in the coming months and years as we replace some of the shallow rooted pines that fell victim to the storm with more resilient native species better able to withstand the impact of these more frequent extreme weather events.

<div>We are making good use of all timber and chip from the fallen trees and this of course is still a really valuable resource in horticulture. The woodchip that we use to mulch provides really essential fungi mycorrhiza, which is vital for building healthy soils and plant/earth connections. Nothing is going to waste.

<div>Next Friday, the 13th March we have a benefit gig. 3 great bands have offered to play for free to support our cause. We’ll have The Great Apes, The Taken and The Disappointments playing. Plus we’ve had a really generous donation from the CAMRA award-winning Penzance brewing Co. donating 2 real ales for our bar. Cuckoo Valley cider farm will be supplying obviously cider for our bar, but also they’re bringing their wonderful woodfired pizza trailer.

<div>Staff, Volunteers, Learners &amp; Trainees at Kehelland Trust are calling out to the community to raise much needed funds to help us recover from damage sustained by storm Goretti.
</div>

<div>We appreciate that this is a difficult time for Cornwall and so many have suffered damage, but if you can help us too, this would be so welcome.
</div>

<div>We have lost the skin from 3 of our polytunnels, had frames on our beautiful wooden framed Dutch glasshouse ripped out and destroyed, panes of greenhouse glass and polytunnel doors broken. We have lost at least 12 trees across the site; all of which have come up with their root plates and require professional tree surgery to make safe before we can move in to process the wood and tidy up with our trainees and learners.

<div>Most of our tunnels and glasshouses contain edible crops, but one of the tunnel skins we have lost provides an essential dry space for learners &amp; trainees to meet and work. It was a sad day today to say we haven't got that space for the foreseeable future and, whilst we have the most incredible maintenance team capable of many small miracles on a daily basis, this situation leaves us with no choice but to reach out to ask for donations for the materials and professional external labour we so desperately need.

<div>As we shared photographs of the damage to our site on social media last Friday, over 14000 people viewed our story. We thought that maybe if even half of those people donated just £1 we could repair the damage quickly and re-plant native trees to start to build a sustainable and, hopefully, more resilient shelter belt.

<div>Kehelland Trust is a registered charity and our unique 16 acre site is a sanctuary for the support of the young people and adults with disabilities that we work with each day.
</div>

<div>If, by chance, we exceed our target, funds will go towards the replacement of our 'big blue' van which suffered irreversible damage as one of the doors was ripped open during the last storm! Not a penny wasted at a time when we have not had the best of luck.
