Juliana's cancer & paralysis fight

Donation protected
Help Juliana fight for life against cancer and paralysis. Here’s the story of this talented and remarkable young woman, in her own words. Not only is she an example of the kind of immigrants who made America great, through hard work and with an indomitable spirit, she’s extraordinary in every respect. Even with what she is going through now.

“It could happen to anyone, but it happened to me.  I went through cancer and double-mastectomy in my early 30s, and now, shortly after turning 40, I walked into the Emergency Room with bad back pain and walked out with Stage IV Cancer metastasized to my lungs and spine.  Cancer is back with a vengeance.

My disabled mom and my rescue cat – Riley are the only family I have around.  I moved to America when I was only 19, with dreams and aspirations to build a life not only for myself but for my parents, so they can live out the rest of their lives in a better world.  My father stayed with me for 5 years but had to return home to help care for my injured brother.  But my mom has been with me for the past 9 years.

We are enormously grateful for the opportunities we have had as I’ve been able to work on 2 careers: as a published writer and as a health & wellness professional, helping clients stay healthy and providing home care for my mother.   I even got to fight forest wild fires for 4 years along the way!

During the first bout of cancer I was able to continue working to various extents but, sadly, this time around, it’s as if the world has been pulled from under my feet.  I am no longer able to work with clients because of physical limitations and am forced to transfer my mom’s care to a third party (though she is still greatly dependent on me financially and practically.)

I am in pain all the time and it is nearly impossible to control.  I work and function with 4 fractured vertebrae and cancer impinging on the radial nerves as well as the spinal canal, dangerously close to the spinal cord and already beginning to show some signs of neurological impairments associated with spinal cord damage, along with hip bone fracture and impairments.  But I am alive and I hope to not only survive but get better and keep on living.

I am receiving radiation treatment, along with doing every healthy thing I know to support my immune system to fight strong till the end!  Cancer in the bone is inoperable and while the prognosis is bleak and is exacerbated by the risk of paralysis, I am strong enough to keep going though I know I cannot do it alone.  I need your help with encouragement, and medical and living expenses as I heal up, and adjust to a new stage of life and hope to continue being there for my family and all the people who come my way – we are all in it together, never knowing what’s around the corner.  I thank you for taking the time and caring to participate in my journey of healing and recovery.”

We have set out to collect $75,000 for Juliana to have the means and the time to get treatment, recover and regroup, as she goes through this traumatic life event, with your help.  Whether your contribution is great or small, Juliana wants you to know that you are making a difference in her life for which she will always be grateful.
