Kristen, a loving gram and mother is fighting the battle of a lifetime..
Last summer Kristen noticed a painful lump in her knee and went to the doctor to have it examined. The Doctor told her it was probably just a Bakers Cyst. In January 2018, months after the original visit, she decided to go for a second opinion due to the growing and painful nature of the lump.
This time, the Doctor ordered a MRI to diagnose the issue. He called her the following day to give her some pretty life changing news. ..
The cyst turned out to be a tumor and it was consistent with the findings of a sarcoma (cancer). In a whirlwind of events, a biopsy confirmed the findings of a rare high grade soft tissue sarcoma, called Pleomorphic Leiomyosarcoma, and said treatment must start immediately.
Since the tumor is too big to operate on and has spread to other parts of her body, she will need radiation five days a week for five consecutive weeks all in an attempt to shrink the tumor and make it operable.
This is a huge strain as Kristen is currently working full time (6 days a week) as a hairdresser by day and receiving radiation five days a week at Umass Memorial Hospital by night.
My goal in starting this GoFundMe page is to take some financial burden off my beautiful mother so that she is able to cut back her hours during her aggressive treatment. This would reduce her energy output where possible, it will help her keep her spirits up, help her recover and heal, and it will improve her overall health and well being not having to worry about how she is going to pay the bills.
This leads to my secondary goal and it's a simple one that one would want for any parent: to ensure she can watch her three grandsons grow into healthy young men and live the rest of her life with fervor and enjoyment.
The funds raised will specifically go to:
- Medical bills
- Co-pays for pre/post operative visits
- Lost wages when she recovers from surgery and/or cuts hours back
- Transportation for daily treatments to and from the hospital
- Post-op in home therapy
