Keeping Maasai Girls In School

Donation protected
$7 WILL CHANGE THE LIFE OF ONE GIRL.

In Chumvi, a village in the Il Ngwesi Group Ranch in a remote area of Laikipia County, Kenya, families struggle to provide for the basic needs of their children.  Many children do not finish primary school due to financial reasons and other factors.  Among girls, in particular, teen pregnancy and eary dropout are huge issues.  These challenges are further enhanced by a lack of menstrual hygiene and reproductive health awareness, as well as a lack of access to resources such as sanitary towels/pads. Until recently, the government was providing menstrual pads to the schools. However, since the supply has stopped, girls are finding it more and more difficult to attend class and keep up with their schooling.

Working under  Mukogodo Girls Empowerment Program (MGEP) ‌ and the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University Global Public Health Program, our goal is to provide affordable, subsidized reusable menstrual pads for the primary school girls of Chumvi. The kits are produced in a local sewing center sponsored by  Days for Girls and  Kenyan Healthcare Initiatives ‌, ‌ and so this project will also provide economic stumulus for the women of the Il Ngwesi Group Ranch. A donation of only $7 will provide a girl student in Chumvi with a full kit including 8 liners, 2 shields, soap, panties, and a calendar to track her cycle - providing hygienic menstrual care for at least 3 years. Please share and donate to help the students of Chumvi stay in school and stay healthy.
