My name is Yolande "Yo" deGastyne and I will be living in the woods and my car, come January 1. This is the second time that I have faced this crisis in my lifetime.
For the past four years I have been living in an apartment and the Section 8 Housing Authority has paid three quarters of my rent each month. At years end, the Martin County office will be closing their doors and my financial benefits will cease.
I am a college graduate. I have never had trouble with the law and I don't drink, smoke or use drugs.
1 year ago, I had spinal surgery as a result of being bedridden for 2 1/2 years. This was brought on because I was in a chronic depressive state, which caused me to make an attempt on my life. Because of these issues, I am not able to find work that can accommodate my disabilities. Exertion while walking, sitting or standing to long is exhausting and very painful.
The following are my immediate needs:
1. Rent money to stay in my current apartment for a little longer.
2. A less expensive rental.
3. An accommodating job.
If it comes down to it, which it looks like it will, I at lease have a good working car to sleep in. This and your donations are my saving grace!
God bless you. -"Yo"
