<div><strong>La Casita de Unión Trans, the only Trans-led shelter and community center in Baja California, is at risk of closing and needs your help!</strong>

<div>Located in Tijuana, near the US-Mexico border, La Casita is a vital resource for trans women, offering shelter, human rights accompaniment, mutual aid, and empowerment programs. In a region where trans people face extreme violence and discrimination, La Casita provides a sanctuary and a space for community-building, resistance, and personal growth.

<div><strong>Each year, La Casita serves over 3,600 trans women</strong>, many of whom are marginalized by intersecting issues like homelessness, sex worker stigma, deportation, HIV/AIDS, addiction, and violence. Many have experienced forced migration, fleeing places where they were criminalized and persecuted, simply for living authentically. Despite these challenges, La Casita provides critical services, including:

<li>Emergency housing for up to 20 trans women

<li>Peer support groups and access to gender-affirming care (name/gender marker changes, hormone therapy)
</li>
<li>Mutual aid (food, hygiene, clothes)
</li>
<li>Empowerment programming (photography, ceramics, dance)
</li>
<li>Legislative and policy advocacy against transfemicide, transphobic violence, and discrimination

</ul>

<div>These services are not only life-saving, but they challenge the idea that trans women are limited to lives of violence and survival. La Casita is not just a refuge or a place where human rights are defended, but a space where trans women are pushed to remember the dreams that society told them they had no right to have, and to pursue them.

<div>Despite La Casita’s far-reaching impact, they are now facing a funding crisis. In-kind support from international agencies like UNHCR has been cut, and some donors have withdrawn support from LGBTQ+-focused organizations, leaving La Casita more vulnerable than ever.

<div><strong>To sustain operations, La Casita needs $340,000 MXN (~$18,000 USD) to cover six months of expenses.</strong> Monthly operating costs are around $50,000 MXN (~$2,700 USD), and we are raising extra funds to account for GoFundMe fees.

<div>Ubicada en Tijuana, cerca de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México, La Casita es un recurso vital para las mujeres trans, ofreciendo refugio, acompañamiento en derechos humanos, ayuda mutua y programas de empoderamiento. En una región donde las personas trans enfrentan violencia y discriminación extrema, La Casita proporciona un santuario y un espacio para la construcción de comunidad, la resistencia y el crecimiento personal.
