Hello and thank you for checking out Grandma Thelma’s GoFundMe page! We are trying to raise enough funds to keep Grandma Thelma home and we need your help to do it.
Thelma is 98 years old and she has lived in her home for over 16 years. She is very independent and wants nothing more than to be able to stay home. In 2019 she unfortunately had an accident and fell in the kitchen, resulting in a very serious neck injury. After many months in rehab, she was finally able to come home once we set up full time care for her! It was a difficult adjustment at first, but in the end, she grew comfortable with the extra help in the home and she loves her current caregivers! We are so grateful for the team we are currently working with and the love they have for our Grandma. When things became tight and we weren’t sure how we were going to keep Thelma home, her caregivers accepted a $3/hr pay cut to help make that possible! Grandma Thelma is now on MassHealth, but the subsidized PCA program will only cover 44 hours a week of in-home care, which leaves 96 hours to be paid out of pocket. This adds up to $1344 a week at $14/hour. A significant amount of money. We are hoping to raise $25,000 which will cover the cost of Thelma’s care for an additional 6 months. We plan to use this time to write letters to state representatives and try to increase her PCA hours in the home so we don’t have to go against her wishes and place her in a nursing home. Masshealth has offered many resources to find her a nursing home, but again, Thelma is very independent and wishes to stay in her home.
At home she is able to enjoy the freedom of going outside at any time to enjoy the sunshine or try to see the planets align (as she did this past year with Jupiter and Saturn lining up). She loves having her family and friends come to visit and she looks forward to staying up late for her weekly movie night at home! Our goal is to keep her at home and out of a nursing home for as long as possible.
