Helping animals is my passion.  Over my eight year career as a veterinarian I have worked with dogs and cats in rural clinics, koalas and snakes in Australia, bears in China, sloths in Panama, sea turtles in Costa Rica and much more along the way.

I purchased my boat in 2017 in Panama City, and began the process of transforming her from Coastal Cruiser to Floating Veterinary Clinic. Since then she has been used to reach animals in need in remote locations across Central America. Her name is Chuffed,  slang for happy or pleased, which is exactly how doing this wonderful work makes me feel.

To continue our mission of providing free veterinary care to animals in remote locations we need your help. Chuffed needs repairs and maintenance to be able to continue this journey.

Sailing up the Central American Coast we have provided free treatment to hundreds of animals in remote and impoverished locations. On board SV Chuffed we have all the medical and surgical equipment we need to rescue, treat and release wildlife of every variety, and provide high standard medical care to domestic animals that otherwise would not be able to receive veterinary assistance.

No mission is with out difficulties, and we have faced many hurdles along the way - from angry monkeys to wild storms, engines that won't work to endless legal red tape.  But, through it all, the mission has remained the same and animals have remained our number one priority.

This year was no exception, after months of hard work Chuffed was released from the Marina and we set sail from Costa Rica to Mexico. Known as an 'up hill' journey, we knew there would be many challenges. We had two goals in sight. The first to provide veterinary care to animals in need a long the way. The second to reach Mexico where we could more affordably provide Chuffed with the care she needs to continue to be the amazing Floating Veterinary Clinic that she is.

Along the way we were able to vaccinate 125 dogs in Nicaragua, perform sterilization surgeries on a further 25, provide veterinary advice and treatment to animals in four countries and had an emergency turtle rescue in El Salvador! All of this was made possible through the support of each and everyone of you; those who have donated, become patrons, subscribed to our channel and liked our posts.

After three months beating up the coast, covering over 1000nm, spanning six countries, with countless storms, dolphins dancing on the bow, sea birds pooping on the boat and sleepless nights in rolly anchorages we made it to Mexico. And we hit the ground running, already providing treatment for over 50 dogs and cats!

We have HUGE plans for Chuffed's  future too, with animal work organized for our journey north to the Sea of Cortez, that includes everything from sterilization campaigns to crocodile sanctuaries! With new exciting opportunities to get on board, with volunteer missions open to our extended Chuffed Crew!

But first we need our Floating Veterinary Clinic to be safe, we need to know that our sails wont tear, our engine will start and that we can get our medical equipment to shore with out our dingy sinking... and for that we need your help

Chuffed will be hauled out  (taken out of the water and put into the ship yard) at the beginning of October, with the goal to get her ship-shape to hit the water again in November and continue spreading love and medical care to animals along the Pacific Coast of Mexico, and into the Sea of Cortez.

In Her current state Chuffed is unable to continue sailing safely, which means we can not reach the places our future patients are located. Our sails are torn, the engine needs replacement parts, the hull is in desperate need of new anti-foul, the dingy is falling apart, the ropes are frayed... the list goes on but you get the idea.

After consulting with boat builders and surveyors that have been in board, we have worked out the bare minimum we must raise to get Chuffed to a condition she can be safely sailed is $7,500 Australian Dollars ($5,000 USD).  When I say bare minimum, I mean it, it will allow us to have working sails, engine and a safe hull to move, but nothing else. We hope to exceed that  so that Chuffed can be better stocked and set up to provide better care to animals in need, for example the risk of losing equipment when riding in the current dingy is quite high. Just last month we lost 10 rabies vaccines because the fridge stopped working.  Unexpected repairs and losses hinder our mission to help animals, taking up precious time and resources that could be directed towards a life changing treatment.

We hope to have Chuffed in a condition where scheduled maintenance is all she needs, so we can better plan our veterinary missions and to allow the captain doctor more time with patients!

We have set our fundraiser to finish on September 7th to allow the time we need to order parts and have them delivered before the haul out.

Well the first incentive is the chuffed feelings you will have knowing you have helped deliver life changing veterinary care to animals in need!
But we also have some fun prizes up for grabs for donators! Every person who donates over $10 AUD ($6.88 USD) will go into the draw with:
- 2 chances to win a ONE ON ONE chat with me, Cpt. Dr. Sheddy
- A chance to win a PHOTO CANVAS PRINT of a beautiful scenic view experienced from Chuffed
Every single donor will get access to a supporter only live video update towards the end of a campaign, to let you know how things are going and future plans.
Not only that but any donations over $300 AUD ($206 USD) will receive a personal thank you video from me, and any donations over $1500 AUD ($1031 USD) will reserve a spot on board Chuffed for a future mission.

Since beginning our journey from Costa Rica to Mexico in April 2019 we have:
- Sailed (who am I kidding... motored and sailed) over 1000nm
- Provided treatment for animals in all five countries we visited
- Vaccinated 170 dogs and cats
- Spayed or neutered 25 dogs and cats
- Rescued and treated one critically endangered Hawksbill turtle
- Provided medical care and surgery for a further 40 dogs and cats
- Filmed over 300 hours of footage
- Edited 15 videos, and counting!
- Posted 50 updates for Instagram and Facebook
- Changed the lives for countless animals and their owners

We are dedicated to saving animals while exploring this beautiful world by sea, and we are passionate about sharing it with you all. Help us continue this mission, making the world a better place, one animal at a time.

WE MADE THE $10,000 GOAL! And in fact have already begun to exceed it, and I am so overwhelmed and grateful for the huge flood of support, it is amazing to know so many people believe in the mission and want to keep it afloat!
Because we made our goal quickly, and it was to cover the very basic needs of Chuffed to keep her afloat, we have increased it in the hope we can exceed the goal and get some more upgrades.
The autopilot is currently temperemental at best, the refrigerator sometimes just turns off (we actually lost fifteen vaccines because of it), the top coat is purely cosmetic but boy it'd be nice to re do... all of these things were put on the back burner behind more important things like running rigging and the bottom job, things Chuffed needs to be safe. But if we can really smash out lots of repairs and upgrades during our time on the hard it will allow us to reach and serve the beautiful animals we meet a long the way better! The more we can do now, the more time and resources will be available for animal work in the future.
Thank you all again SO SO SO much, you have made me one very Chuffed Dr Cpt indeed!!!
