Keep the Northampton Pride Chorus Singing!

Everyone should feel that they belong, that they’re safe, that they’re accepted, and that they can express themselves. For folks in the LGBTQIA+ community, sometimes those can be the very things that elude us. Here at the Northampton Community Music Center (NCMC), we don’t just accept the LGBTQIA+ community, we celebrate the community...through music!
Our goal for the Northampton Pride Chorus is for it to be financially accessible for everyone. Your donation will help keep this program running by supporting instructor's fees, material and administrative costs, and tuition assistance for members who need the support to keep the chorus in their lives.
Directed by Mara Levi, the Northampton Pride Chorus is a mixed-voice chorus that provides a safe and encouraging musical space for all who identify as LGBTQIA+ and their allies. All experience levels and vocal ranges are embraced, and every member has the chance to express themselves through song. Members choose which voice parts they sing based on their identities, rather than prescribed ideas of vocal range, and members choose repertoire collectively.
It was less than a year ago that the Pride Chorus was invited to perform on stage at Northampton's annual Pride celebration. What an incredible honor! While we were heartbroken when the event was canceled due to the pandemic, we know we will take our proud place on that stage when it is safe to be together again. We're forging ahead toward that goal by continuing to meet online.
The Pride Chorus is not just about singing. It’s about being who we are and finding what we have in common while celebrating our differences. It’s about hope.

The mission of the Northampton Community Music Center is to foster the love and pursuit of music through quality education, performances and activities that are accessible to all. NCMC's scholarship program provides tuition assistance to socio-economically disadvantaged students and has never turned away a qualifying student.
