Keep The Hivery Alive and Abuzz

A note from Grace Kraaijvanger, Founder of The Hivery. We need your help.
Please read below (and share).

When I started The Hivery six years ago, my goal was to create the kindest, most beautiful, most supportive, most impactful space and connection hub that I could. I can honestly say that I poured my life, my time, and my personal savings into making The Hivery spaces feel welcome, inspiring, and inclusive. This is my life’s work.

The impact has been astounding and The Hivery, as both a space and a community, has created countless stories of people getting jobs, business partners, clients, publishers, podcasts, funders, mentors, customers, and friends. It’s not just about the inspiration; The Hivery is a tangible ecosystem with currency and impact. We have proven that work can be created differently.

Along the way, I have practiced what I preached and I have done what I advise my community to do: I took risks, I played big, I brought the dreams and visions of my head into reality and built out two beautiful, thriving community workplaces in Mill Valley and San Francisco, California. And I have certainly been tested. After I lost my sister, I wondered if I would have the strength to keep the business going. Thankfully, I persevered with the community by my side, and received so much support in return.

Through both the difficult times and the celebratory times, it has always felt like we have been fueled by an intangible momentum...we have grown for our community, by our community, and most importantly WITH our community. We were built by the very humans who valued us, nurtured us, and grew with us.

But we could never have foreseen this current crisis that has completely halted our forward trajectory.

This is why I’m writing today: The Hivery needs your help.

Our beautiful spaces have been closed since March 13th, and must remain closed for an indefinite time. We “sell” space, connection, and community...that can’t be put in a takeout box or in an online store. While we have poured our efforts into our virtual membership and digital offerings, the reality is that they don’t come close to making up the revenue that we’ve lost from our co-working memberships, events, and venue rentals, and it most certainly doesn’t cover our expenses.

I want to reassure you that we’re doing everything within our knowledge and power to keep The Hivery intact, and to best position this beloved organization and community to play a vital role in the  future as our home away from home for meaningful work. We’re exploring every means of possible support, including federal and local grants and loans, women-owned business grants and every application and opportunity we can get our hands on….but these funds are not guaranteed to come in, and they won’t meet the needs of our short-term future. And so, we must humbly ask for your support, at whatever level you can offer.  We know these are challenging times for all, and we are hoping to build momentum through modest contributions from a large number of people.

Every donation will go toward maintaining our momentum to take The Hivery into the future.

If you have been impacted in a positive way by The Hivery, we would deeply appreciate your support to help us through this challenging time.

It can be a donation of any size, and every gift is meaningful. We're asking people to contribute what they can, but if everyone gave $25-$150, we'd be able to make our goal and keep The Hivery humming. And everyone who contributes $50 and up, you'll get free access to a new multi-module, online course we've been creating during the shut-down... “The Hivery At Home: A Course in Getting Unstuck, Finding Clarity, and Creating Beautiful Action”.

Truly, any contribution large or small will really, really help.

And if you could let others know about this campaign and share this with your networks, that will also make a huge difference. Let your social media circles know about the positive impact The Hivery has had on your life, and you will be helping us to reach our goal, simply by spreading the word.

During this time of social distancing, we've all become more keenly aware that human connection is a fundamental need. For many, The Hivery has been a place of connection and also a container for vulnerability, new ideas, creativity, beautiful space, and the potential inside you. Though the doors are closed, The Hivery is waiting for us to come back inside and reunite in community. We will once again be your home away from home, your bright light, your connection point, your inspiration lab.

If The Hivery spaces and community have, in any way, been a positive, bright spot in your life, we would be profoundly grateful for your support. Until we can be together, we wish you safety, comfort, friendship, and love from our hearts to yours.

PS Some of you have expressed interest in pre-purchasing membership and gift certificates instead of a donation. That is certainly a welcome option, as well and can be purchased at: https://www.thehivery.com/new-products/supporting-the-hivery

PPS Again, we know these are such hard times for everyone. It is challenging and humbling for us to ask for assistance rather than give it, but these are challenging times, and we truly need your help. We do so with deep respect and gratitude to all of our community, both near and far.
