Keep Spokane’s 84 Year Tradition Going!

Happy Lilac Season, Spokane and our Inland Northwest Friends!
The third week of May is traditionally Lilac Festival Week here in Spokane, culminating in the country’s largest Armed Forces Torchlight Parade. It is a time for our community to gather downtown and celebrate all things Lilac City! However, the Lilac Festival is more than just a Parade. We host several events throughout the year including a fun tea party for our young princesses and princes hosted by the Lilac Royal Court, highlight local artists in our Lilac Legacy Art Show & Competition, honor our military by teaming up with the Fairchild Air Force Base in a golf tournament & Let Freedom Ring luncheon, and showcasing our region by inviting dignitaries and visiting royalty from all over the Pacific Northwest for our Queens Luncheon and President’s Gala.
We are a non-profit, all Volunteer organization funded 100% by our community. We were founded by the Associated Garden Clubs of Spokane in 1938 to highlight the lilacs that bloom every spring that showcase our beautiful region. Today, the Association still embraces that idea and more with our mission statement of “Honor Our Military, Empower Our Youth and Showcase Our Region.”
Besides the last two years, there has only been one other time in our history (during WWII) where we have not been able to hold our Festival in the streets of downtown Spokane. Unfortunately, due to COVID’s large event restrictions, our 2020 & 2021 Festivals were required to be canceled. However, we are hopeful our great city will be back up and running later this year and we can start celebrating once again with a smaller Holiday parade and other events.
We have appreciated all of our wonderful Partners who have continued their financial and in-kind support for the Festival and scholarship program throughout these difficult months. This includes community businesses large & small and individual donors. In a typical year, our Festival relies on generous donations from these Partners as well as the funds we raise through our multiple above mentioned events and an annual telethon. In lieu of the telethon, we are reaching out to our community with a GoFundMe campaign in hopes we can broaden the awareness of the needs of our organization. All funds received will go directly to the Association to keep all operations running; from our office to Royalty to the Parade and our other future events!
We need our community’s support in order for our 83-year-old tradition to continue. We hope you consider donating and also joining us at one of our many events when we are able to celebrate together again! Donations to our 501 (c)(3) organization are 100% tax deductible.
