Keep Shakespeare in San Quentin Alive!

We lost our funding! We have provided Shakespeare in prison for 19 years. For the past eight years, our funding was provided through grants from the California Arts Council. Sadly, we have lost funding through this current grant cycle, threatening programming that serves hundreds of individuals incarcerated at San Quentin and Solano state prisons.
We want to keep this nineteen-year program that has benefitted so many alive. But we cannot do that without the public's support.
We offer Drama Therapy inspired programs that give participants opportunities for Shakespeare Study and Performance. Exercises foster self-reflection, self-expression, cooperation, compassion, and goal-setting. We practice being human together. Shakespeare offers many opportunities to explore human motivation, interpersonal interactions, and deep thinking about the human condition.
Funds raised will cover:
- Teaching artist salaries.
- Program administration.
- Mileage reimbursement (these prisons are far!).
- Program supplies (printed scripts, costumes...).
- Videography, so we can continue to share videos of performances with participants' families and the public.
