Keep Ms.N Safe at Home

Ms.N is a tenant Housing Justice Now has been working with who is facing eviction after falling behind on rent.  She is fighting to keep herself and her daughters housed through the winter.  In order to avoid being locked out of her home by Sheriff's deputies, she must pay the court $1188 by 5pm this Friday.

Ms.N wants to stay anonymous to protect herself and her daughter from retaliation by the landlord.

Happy Holidays from my family to yours!

I hope and pray that all is well with one and all. I am a 37 year old single mother of two beautiful girls! We reside in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

During this strange and serious time we are living in, I am humbly asking for assistance. Covid-19 has done a number on us all one way or another. I lost my job in March like many other Americans. In August things got worse, my days of rent issues began in August. I made many calls to different organizations for assistance I called and called and to this day  I have not received any type of assistance.  Can you imagine being told I can’t help you because you don’t have income coming in! 

I wouldn’t be asking you for help if I could help myself. I have been searching for jobs daily and I’m optimistically waiting to hear from someone soon. Eventually in October I was served eviction papers and set to attend court in November. Due to a Covid outbreak at the court,  the courts was closed and my case was  rescheduled. Like many others, the court failed to notify us of the closing or the date of our new hearing. 

When I called to find out, I was told I had missed it so the judge ruled to evict me. I am fighting for a new hearing and have filed an appeal.  In the meantime, to avoid being locked out, I must pay my rent to the court. 

I have no family here. I have no friends here. I moved here 5 years ago to create a better way of living for my family. I am looking for a home for us, the apartment we reside in has many maintenance issues, but I have no other place to go with my young daughters.

Your help during this time would mean everything to me and my daughters.  The Bible says we have not because we ask not. James Chapter 4 Verse 2. It’s Christmas time and while I wish we were all in better times we must still give thanks and praise. Thank you for your help Anything helps,  thank you for reading this.
