Keep Ms. Culbreath in her Home
Donation protected
Because I often get the joy of being the clearinghouse for the generosity of our neighbors, someone directed Ms. Culbreath to me after she had told them about her tax troubles. Her property taxes have nearly quadrupled over the last 4 years despite having made no improvements to her home and having the highest tax exemptions available to her in place. She receives a disability check for around $700 each month and was expected to pay $2200 in property taxes this year (that's over 25% of her annual income)! She desperately wants to stay in her home and in her neighborhood where she has lived since 1965 and where she has built a support structure and community.
Ms. Culbreath generously uses her home to help others who need a hand up, and currently has a woman staying with her, who lost her place to live and just recently found stable employment. Let's keep her in her home of 54 years so she can continue to enjoy the benefits of living in her neighborhood and sharing her home!
The certified letter she received from the county says she owes $2,236 (including some penalties). I put $2300 to cover the 2.9% that GoFundMe will take. Feel free to go WAY over like y'all did for Ms. Bee.
*Any amount over what's needed to pay the tax bill will go to start a fund that will be kept to meet tax relief needs in the neighborhood as they arise in the future. : )
