Hi! Thanks for stopping by to find out about my Go Fund Me campaign to fund a personal care Attendant and a modified van.. I'm a daughter, sister, wife, mom, grandma and friend. I was born two months early, and have had Cerebral Palsy since the day I was born. Life has been full of challenges, surgeries, physical therapy, hope, laughter and tears. I have tried to meet each challenge with grace, sometimes succeeding, many times wishing I could do better, but always knowing that no matter what, it was important to strive and go forward. Along the way, I have been fortunate to have strong support of friends and family, without whom I wouldn't be able to do as much as I do.
Until now, my husband has been my primary care provider, but now, he needs emergency knee replacement surgery. Even after that, there’s no guarantee that he will be able to help me take care of myself anymore, so that means that we might always need extra help. My son and daughter help as much as they can, but they are not able to be around all the time, and at least for a while, both my husband and I will need help doing even the most basic, everyday things.
I need to hire a part-time attendant to ease the burden on those who help me take care of myself. Insurance doesn't cover that. It would give my son, daughter, and husband of 30+ years a break, so they can just be themselves and do whatever they want to do, without having to worry about whether they need to be close by in case I need some help with personal-care, like taking a shower or getting dressed, or using the "facilities." Imagine, always having someone in the bathroom with you, because you need their help to use it..... Embarrassing? Yes. But it's okay, because that's sometimes the way things get done.
I also need to fund a modified van so I can keep working at the job I love. A modified van costs approximately $30,000 to buy, but insurance doesn't cover that either, and I can't afford the cost on my own. The wheelchair weighs about 300 pounds even without me in it, and it doesn’t fold or come apart, so I can’t put it in a car and take it with me.
Even if you can't donate, please let your friends know about this campaign and ask them to pass the word. Getting an Attendant and a van might take a miracle, but I believe in miracles!
