My name is Aayush, and I am a high school junior stuck at home listening to the barrage of negativity on the news during the COVID-19 quarantine. I started Kitchen to Ward—with help from my teammates Anika Potnis, Arnav Chugh, Renesh Gudipati, Aaron John, and Yogesh Koppu—as an attempt to create a positive impact in a community afflicted by the coronavirus. We aim to ensure that our brave and selfless healthcare workers in the front line are well-fed while local restaurants remain in business. I am a boy scout and familiar with giving back to the community, whether it be participating in food drives or Eagle projects in public schools and spaces.
In multiple states, limited equipment, brimming capacity, and overworked staff is still the norm for many healthcare centers well past the peak of the pandemic. Meanwhile, restaurants in particular are one of the hardest-hit businesses as a result of the nationwide shelter-in-place. Kitchen to Ward is a platform that tackles both issues simultaneously where donors can address meal requests of healthcare workers by making a donation. Their contribution will enable us to deliver meals from a local restaurant to a hospital we have partnered with.
My initial goal is to raise funds to help deliver 1,000 meals to hospitals bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to gain momentum and make Kitchen to Ward a sustainable effort.
