CelticsBlog Forums are moving, and we need your help.
If you're reading this, you probably already know the news. Starting this season, CelticsBlog/ SbNation will no longer be hosting our beloved forums. A big shoutout to SbNation which has maintained this special community for many years, but it's time for a new chapter!
I grew up watching Bird, endured through Lewis & Bias, celebrated the Big 3... and can't wait for the Tatum era to reach its full potential. I remember Paul Pierce's first game and the upside potential of guys like Marcus Banks (7 steals!). Still, my Celtics knowledge is a fraction of what can be found on this forums. Where else can you find a resident salary cap expert? Fans with firsthand knowledge of 50 years of Celtics basketball? Nowhere else, that's where! It just wouldn't be the same if this site moved to Reddit, or Facebook, or some other format.
As a long-time forum member and lifetime Celtics fan, I couldn't let THE best Boston Celtics community die. So starting this month, Fanstreme will be taking over operation of the forums.
In order to make the transition, there are some costs involved. We need new servers, we need to resurrect things like the email system in a professional manner, and we are hoping to cover these costs for the first 6 months or so. We also want to keep the site permanently free.
What will the new site be like?
First and foremost, we want to provide the same experience you've always had, just under a new name. We are now Celtics Strong, but the forums will look the same as always when we make the switch.
We're not done there of course. We'll be working closely with the community to find the best ways to refresh the site. Currently planned features include:
* Lots of fixes: emails working, a better registration system to attract more new users, bring back the YouTube embeds, fix avatars, new theme(s) and several other feature requests being evaluated.
* Official CelticsStrong fantasy leagues - more on this later.
* New tools for moderators and contributors, who are the backbone of the community.
Will there be ads?
In short, probably. As an independent site, we want to make sure the forums become self-sustaining and that we never have to run another donation campaign to keep the site alive.
That said, we don't ever want to make Celtics Strong a spam site. Funds from this campaign will help give us time to engage tastefully with sponsors.
