Calvary Center for Culture and Community, a secular 501(c)3 organization housed in a historic 1906 church building, is home to over a dozen community organizations and acts as a "town hall" for West Philadelphia. Since the start of the pandemic, we've been unable to hold most of our regular events, and rental income has taken a serious hit. We have, however, kept all three of our staff people employed at their regular hours- due to some users continuing to pay rents, and due to PPP loans from the government.


As the period of inactivity stretches on and no further stimulus bill has been approved, we are reaching the end of our funding to keep our staff employed and building maintained until regularing programming can return. Our staff have been working hard throughout the summer, preparing the building to hold a few events again in a safe way. We have upgraded our internet, ventilation, and cleaning systems, as well as renovating a bathroom for ADA compliance. These necessary projects have allowed us to begin having a few activities, but we won't be able to resume anything like normal rentals for the forseeable future. Without the level of rentals we once brought in, our income is no longer enough to meet all of our expenses. We are seeking funds to keep making our payroll and provide our staff with health insurance until we are able to fully open the building again.
