Keeler Hurricane Harvey Recovery

Donation protected

Hurricane Harvey caused devastation to thousands upon thousands of people.  John and Amy Keeler, along with their 4 little girls, are among those. My name is Jamie Phelps from Little Elm, TX and this is my sister's family. You'd be hard pressed to find a more loving, compassionate family. If someone is in need, they are the first ones to show up. They're there to provide money, time, support...usually all of the above. Unfortunately, at this time, they are the ones that need our help.  Their home is located in Katy, TX. More specifically Canyon Gate at Cinco Ranch, located near the Buffalo Bayou and Barker Reservoir.  In order to protect more populated areas in Houston from flooding, officials chose not to release the water from the reservoir until they were concerned that the dam would fail and the flooding would become more catastrophic.  Because of this, the water was forced to back up into their community. I feel it's necessary to note that their home is located in the 800 year flood plane.  Nobody could have ever imagined this would happen. Therefore, they did not have flood insurance. Nobody in their neighborhod did. Conditions are so bad that the National Guard isn't even allowing residents back into their homes.  They can't assess the damage because it's still under water. Having said that, we're not sure what all will have to be replaced. I can tell you for certain that they will have to replace flooring, sheetrock, appliances, cabinets, a work truck, etc... These are just the knowns. The longer it sits there, the worse the damage will be. Officials are saying 1-2 weeks before they let people back into their homes.

So many people are asking me how they can help. I, along with family and friends feel it's best to send them money to aid in repairing their home. Many people want to donate furniture, clothes, food, etc... which is greatly appreciated. However, since they are still displaced and living with another family for the time being, they have no place to store them. Financial support is the top priority to get this loving family back on their feet.

Please find it in your heart to help them out. No donation is too small and every little bit helps. If you aren't able to donate, please share and above all, please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read this. #texasstrong
