Keegan Robertson's Autism Battle

Hebrews 13:16

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Rusty and Keri Robertson are amazing people and need your help.  They are parents of two boys and one of them, Keegan, has nonverbal autism that requires specialized care.  And with specialized care comes large healthcare bills. And the bills are piling up.

Rusty was recently asked about the hurdles they face and how it’s changed them as parents.

Here’s what he had to say:
“Some of the hurdles we are facing as a family is that my wife and I are both teachers. We are just limited financially with some of the things that we want to provide for Keegan. When we pick and choose what we think Keegan needs and think he will respond to, the financial burden is sometimes pretty strong. We know that Keegan is responding well to the school. We know for a fact he has responded well already to the behavioral therapy. It’s just a matter of time until that big breakthrough comes.

This whole experience with Keegan has changed me greatly. I look at Keegan’s autism as an opportunity to promote God in venues that I never would’ve imagined before. As this disability continues to grow in our culture, more and more families will be asking the question why. And I can truly say without a shadow of a doubt that Keegan has changed my life and my wife’s life for the better. We truly look forward to watching him grow into a young man that will overcome this world to promote Christ through his autism.”

Rusty and Keri’s faith in Jesus Christ is what is turning a challenging situation into an opportunity to spread the Gospel message and show strength in the face of adversity.  Their selfless devotion to our community through their jobs as teachers (and through Rusty’s part-time job as a Youth Pastor) make them an inspiration to us all.  Actually, the word inspiration doesn’t adequately describe what they mean to so many people when you look at what they accomplish on a weekly basis.  For instance, Rusty works three jobs: he runs a youth ministry that is wildly successful on Wednesday nights at RiverTown Church, is highly impactful to the students at Providence School of Jacksonville where he teaches an Old Testament Survey course and works late in the day as the equipment manager (in the fall) and JV Baseball Coach (in the Spring) for the school’s athletic department.  His wife Keri also works tirelessly as a school teacher and more importantly, epitomizes Proverbs 31:10-31.

So, with all they have done for us and our community, we now have a tremendous opportunity to show this wonderful Christian family our love and support.  Your generosity will go towards paying off the immediate medical bills of $9,000 and provide financial relief so that Keegan can remain at a school called Great Strides Rehabilitation, which has a cost of $8,500 annually.  Great Strides Rehabilitation is instrumental in administering Applied Behavior Analysis, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy.
