Dylan's Multiply NYC Internship

Think about your childhood dream. Remember the wonder of it? The naivety and hope? Remember how nothing could ever separate you from becoming a princess, firefighter or video game character?

My childhood dream was to live in New York City. I went for the first time at age seven, and as I was eating pizza, talking to street musicians, and scooter-ing through Central Park, I fell in love. I knew this was where I would live someday. As time went on, my dreams and passions changed many times, but I never again experienced the naivety and hope of that first dream, until I met Jesus.

I learned that a God created this universe, and I learned that He loves me and wants to be my best friend (forever, of course). All of the hope and excitement of that first trip to New York returned, and I pursued Christ's love with a childlike joy surpassing even the greatest of NYC trips.

My name is Dylan Walker. I am a journalism and political science student at the University of Alabama, and today I am asking you to fund a childlike dream.

For those of you who know me, I am a very passionate person. I love to explain (and complain...) about issues and inequalities that matter to me. I want to help people, and I am very vocal about doing so. This summer, I have received the opportunity to put my money (or yours, ha. ha.) where my mouth is.

The Multiply NYC Internship offered me a position spreading the love of Christ to the hopeless in NYC. People of all classes, nationalities, and religions are living in the city that never sleeps, finding that they are never hopeful, joyful or fulfilled. These people need help. They need food, love, friendship and resources. And I want to help them. The cost of the internship (housing) is $1700 for ten weeks, and I am responsible for food and transportation costs, bringing my total to $3500.

Here's a cool (but be warned, emotional) video about the internship program, hosted by the Metropolitan New York Baptist Association. If you feel that God is calling you to donate, or if you feel compelled for nonreligious reasons to support my service trip, I would really appreciate it.

Love, joy, and New York Pizza,
