**update as of mon. dec 17th**
in April of 2019, applications will re open at Paws with a Cause. i already meet the requirements disability wise. now, i need to raise enough money to show them that i am serious about needing/wanting my seizure alert/response dog.
currently i have been diagnosed with severe epilepsy and Todd’s paralysis. recently, i also experienced a mini stroke in the ER following a ‘cluster’ of small seizures. this gofundme was originally created when a 16 minute seizure put me in the intensive care unit.
there have been ups and downs but overall things are kind of at square one. this dog would give me much more independence and a sound mind and comfort knowing i have a trained response dog. i will be able to leave the house alone (+attend college on campus like a normal 20-something year old!!) because the dog would be trained to alert me to a seizure and soften the blow for a fall. (me being a risk of injury to myself when an episode occurs is much of what this dog would help with.)
for these medical reasons, i am not currently cleared to drive or work. :( a dog wouldn’t magically change ohio law and allow me to drive or take away my tremors and other symptoms of seizure and neurological disorders, but it would give me the ability to take the bus without fear of seizing and hitting my head, and it would allow me to go back to one of my favorite things in the world::: going to gigs!!!
