**English version**

We seeded science in Tanzania, now it is time to water it and foster its growth!
Ten Tanzanian science teachers just completed an innovative training where they acquired a method to teach science through fun hands-on experiments. They learned how science is part of our daily life, and that it is possible to explain science using local and low cost materials, making experiments accessible to everybody.
The enthusiasm that grew in them in these months made them keen to continue with the project and become the main players in improving and transforming science education in their communities.
They are now determined to spread the method and multiply the impact. They will keep meeting and strengthening the teachers’ network to share knowledge and skills and keep learning from each other. They will train 10 more teachers that will become part of the project together with their students.
This will be the second phase of a long-term project that can largely improve science education and the quality of life of the local communities. Support us to make it happen!

We planted the seed of science and the teachers are now ready to lead the project and make it grow!

Our mission is now their mission!

In the next 12 months the teachers plan to:
·       Keep meeting monthly to share ideas, methods, experiments, material. They will consolidate the network and their connections to grow together.
·       Organize and carry out another training to fully involve in the project 10 more science teachers from 10 new schools.
·       Organize two science events to catch the interest and curiosity of students, teachers and community, and raise awareness towards deforestation, climate change, waste management, and other environmental issues.
·       Launch science clubs to involve students and teachers in the respective schools with the goal of making science easy and fun. As part of the science clubs, they will also develop new activities aimed to creative reuse of plastic waste and reforestation of the school compound and surrounding area.

To achieve their goals in this second phase of consolidation and expansion, the teachers need to raise €2400. This amount will sustain the following expenses:
·       Logistics and materials for meetings, training and events (i. e. materials for experiments, transportation for teachers and students, rent of location, food for participants)
·       Internet data employed for documentation and evaluation
Our team will thoroughly coach and advice the teachers, and together we will monitor and evaluate the project through reports, visual documentation and questionnaires. And of course they will often share with all of us what is happening through photos and videos.

The past months in Tanzania
A funding by the National Geographic Society made possible the first phase of the SeedScience project in Tanzania.
In the last 3 months our team of scientists and educators met twice a week with 10 teachers from 7 primary and secondary schools to carry out the first training.
Together we had a lot of fun, but we also and especially made the theory become practice. Deforestation, river pollution, climate change and waste management were our baseline to create and propose a variety of hands-on experiments on topics that are normally present in the school curriculum, but until now they were being taught only theoretically. Here we partner with Ngerengere River Eco Camp (Ngeriv ), a Tanzanian NGO active mainly in the environmental and education sectors. They provide SeedScience with logistic support and local coordination.
Our teachers realized how important it is to go beyond the textbook when preparing their lessons. They have acquired a new method of teaching that brings new ideas to the classroom making science education interdisciplinary and allowing them and their students to look at the surrounding world from a new perspective.

From 2021 onward
In 2021 we’ll carry out another big training where our team of educators and the local teachers will be trainers. We’ll train 20 more science teachers to definitely consolidate our team in the area and allow the local science education to receive an impressive boost. This phase will pave the way to reach the surrounding districts and regions making science fun, easy and interesting for as many students as possible.
Our teachers have just started an amazing trip in spreading and improving science education, let’s make it happen!

About us: the SeedScience project
We believe that education is the key to development. Change must proceed through local teachers. They have the chance and responsibility to educate their students to think critically and empower them to become the next agents of change.

SeedScience is an Italian association led by a team of young professionals and professors of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. In each country where we operate we closely collaborate with local partner organizations that assist us on logistics and act as intercultural bridges. The project fulfills the social and educational needs of a large range of developing countries.

We train science teachers by proposing an innovative method of teaching science through hands-on experiments that emphasize the connections between science and issues affecting their communities and that use local inexpensive materials. During a 3 month-training, the local teachers gain a different point of view on teaching and:
·       Increase knowledge and skills to perform hands-on experiments and science activities with their students
·       Observe and possibly acquire a new method of teaching science to put the student at the center of education
·       Meet new teachers in the area to share experience, knowledge and start common projects from which their schools and communities will benefit
·       Have a lot of fun!

The SeedScience project has already been successfully launched in Ghana, Kenya and Uganda where it was funded by private donors, the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The National Geographic Society supported us to plant the seed of science in Tanzania and we are now ready to make it grow!

All the raised money will be directly transferred to the SeedScience Tanzanian Team.

I mesi scorsi in Tanzania

Chi siamo: progetto SeedScience
