Kay Conley's Care Crew

Kay Conley has devoted her life to teaching children with learning challenges.  Kay has been an Intervention Specialist at Lakota for much of the last two decades.  Just about everyday you can find her early in the morning and long after the last bell has rung, meeting with students in need.  

The long hours have been Kay's calling her entire teaching career, inspite of multiple medical battles. In her early 20s Kay suffered heart valve disease, replacement and bypass after a battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and radiation  attacked her body.  The fight only increased her devotion to her son and her students.  Cancer came back,  next came kidney failure and daily home dialysis. Each crisis could not keep Kay from coming back to the classroom. Late last year co-workers rallied to be tested as a possible kidney donor for her when her kidneys grew worse.  Eventually doctors at three different hospitals decided she was too sick to undergo the surgery.  Yet still, there she was, everyday at school, teaching, leading and touching lives.

Overcoming hurdle after hurdle, Kay has returned to school to help her kids.  That is until a few weeks ago.  Kay contracted a virus that led to the discovery she needs a pacemaker. At this time she is too sick to have that surgery.  She has been hospitalised for an extended time and has been told she may not be healthy enough to ever return to her students.
