My name is Kayla Lawton and I work at Reins of Life, an equine therapy program where we provide programs to our community to address issues such as problem solving, teamwork, goal setting, spiritual growth, communication, social skills, natural horsemanship, respect and appreciation for nature.
I am the horse handler/trainer at our program, meaning that it’s my job to oversee the training and health of our horses. I provide horse handling services during group and private sessions of all types so that the therapists can focus on the specific needs of our clients. I also teach beginning to intermediate horse lessons to students, mostly ages 8-14. I currently have 16 students with a wide range of abilities.
I’ve started this Go Fund Me page to enable me to be able to travel to, and take part in, a 3 week apprenticeship program offered by Ken McNabb in July 2018. Ken McNabb is a natural horsemanship clinician who offers a Master Certification in horsemanship training.
There are three levels to this Master Certificate that I will be working towards over the next 2 years. The first level is Apprentice, the second is Journeyman and the third is Master Trainer.
My goal in obtaining the Master Trainer Certification is to get the additional training and experience I need to more effectively use natural horsemanship methods with the horses in our programs as well as horses and their owners in my community (and beyond!).
I'd like to help train horses who have been labeled as "problems" so they instead serve out their purpose to provide the companionship, therapy or work as originally intended by the owner. There aren’t really many problem horses it's mostly problem people!!!
Each of the three trainings will cost around $7000.00 (training fees+room/board+travel expenses). I have paid the deposit to hold my place in the training but still need the remaining $5000.00 before May 27th.
