Kayla Garza autoimmune disease battle

Donation protected
Kayla sets strong goals for herself, she has for many years before her life was interrupted by the systemic autoimmune disorder Lupus.  Looking back, she really started to care about the quality of work she was producing and the effort that she was putting forth around the sixth grade. She felt an irrational desire to put 110% into everything and anything, and she turned that into a lifestyle. Not only did she want to better the spiritual, physical and academic parts of her life, but she also worked to improve her mental toughness along the way.

She was an assistant coach for her hometown of Platteville along with her brother, Brandon for five years starting in 2014. She volunteered 492 hours with her local community during high school, all while maintaining high grades and keeping busy with Key Club, National Honors Society (as Vice President for 2 years), Student Government (as Class Vice President and President), Rotary's Interact Club (as Vice President and President), Drama, FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America), and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).

She set a goal to be the Valedictorian for her school and never looked back!  She strove to be a role model for her class and her hard work paid off. She graduated with a 4.32 GPA as the Valedictorian with the class of 2019 from Valley High School in the small town of Gilcrest, Colorado and set her sights on going to college to become a doctor.

Her Lupus diagnosis just came about this year, but has manifested itself in many ways since her Junior year in high school.  Everything started with quick diagnoses such as costochondritis to explain the chest pains she began to have early on.  Kayla enjoyed lifting weights with her brothers and some doctors felt she had probably just overdone things a bit, or she was putting too much stress on herself with school and was suffering from anxiety...but the pain would recur, one week a month intially and now to the point of almost neverending pain. Finally this year the chest pain, along with joint pain, kidney pain and many other sypmtoms led to her doctors discovering a Ventricular Septal Defect (hole in the heart), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sjogren's Syndrome as well as the underlying Lupus. Treatment is starting slow, but it is just that...treatment, as there is no known cure for Lupus.

The funds gathered here will help offset the ever escalating medical expenses, the cost of the various prescriptions which are being tested to find a combination that will hopefully provide Kayla some semblance of comfort as well as help cover school needs as she continues her effort towards becoming a doctor.

Kayla is 20 years old and has a very productive future in her sights, your assistance can help her obtain her goals!
