KayARC - Sea Kayak - Cork Coastline for Arc House

On the 13th of July 2022, Jon Hynes, an experienced Irish Sea Kayaker is embarking on a journey with a difference. He is going to Sea Kayak the entire Cork coastline solo for Cork ARC House, Cancer Support House.

The story goes back to March 8th 2019, a day that no woman wants to face. Jon's wife, Alayne, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Before we go any further, let us reassure you, that Alayne is healthy and well, having come out the other side of her significant challenge, all thanks to the powerful and combined Cancer Treatment and support services in Cork.

As her husband, best friend and father of their two teenage daughters, he vowed from day one of Alayne's diagnosis, that if they could get through this, that he would use his Sea Kayaking skills to "payback".
Now is that time!

What struck Jon most during Alayne's treatment program was the immense strength and courage she and many other women draw from the range of support services provided by ARC House in Cork. Jon recalls the simple act of kindness when Alayne received her care pack in the early days of her diagnosis. The thought that someone whom they didn't know had the kindness to knit a beautiful blanket. One has no idea how important that blanket would become, a place of refuge, keeping Alayne warm throughout all those tough Chemotherapy sessions. To this day that blanket is a treasured possession. But it is much more than that, Cork ARC house has a complete range of services, education, emotional support, exercise programs, well-being and complementary therapies and more.

Many people are touched by Cancer stories, Jon is now asking his friends and supporters to back his exciting solo sea kayaking journey to celebrate the Cork coastline in very unique way. You can follow his progress on social media. His primary focus of course, as with everything kayaking is safety. Once that is always secure, the next one is adventure. Those who know Jon well will know that he will be incredibly well prepared and always keen to share his passion for the sea and kayaking adventures. So, hopefully, you will enjoy his daily updates and stories but we do kindly ask that you will show your support in whatever way you can. Sharing the GoFundme link, like the Cork ARC house page, donate if you can, please.

Cork ARC House can be found here https://corkcancersupport.ie, and once Jon has completed the challenge of Sea Kayaking from Ardgroom to Youghal there will be an official presentation of all funds raised to ARC House.

Finally, A special note from Jon.
"I am really excited to deliver this fundraiser, the gratitude that I feel towards everyone across all the medical services in helping my wife survive breast cancer runs deep. In particular, though, I want to acknowledge by my kayaking paddle strokes just how much I appreciate Arc house, their fantastic team and their range of services. Cork is a beautiful place to live and thrive, but it is comforting to know that service like Cork ARC house is there when someone has a cancer battle on their hands. Thank you for supporting my fundraiser for Cork ARC.

Finally, a big shout to all my Sea Kayaking friends in Ireland and worldwide. In particular, I draw a lot of inspiration from the "Ladies who Launch." A fabulous and growing group of women in survivorship from Cancer who Kayak weekly, and I hope my efforts will serve to benefit many other women with access to support services.
Jon & his wife Alayne.

See you on the water."
