Kay Brend Family Memorial

Kay Brend, mom, wife, sister, daughter, friend, warrior - fought an impossible battle against colon cancer for the past 2-½ years.  She found her soulmate at 15 and lived the storybook dream of happy family, successful business owner and cultivated a community of friends who became her "tribe", just by being Kay.  
In a bittersweet twist, cancer gave her the excuse to slow down, and enjoy the here and now, share her love even more and be present.  

But, regardless of the lessons learned, it was a life cut short.  This was a battle that could have been avoided if the right failsafes were in place in the medical system.  It is our mission to right that wrong.  Computer systems have been put in place to help keep those errors to a minimum - but there is more that can be done.  The funds raised here will be used to save  other families from this avoidable situation.   We will fight to  implement a more comprehensive "red flag" system, within the electronic medical files, to avoid the tragic missteps that happen in the ER and similar situations.  The revised red flag system will notify the ER doctor immediately of a potential health problem as well as alert the primary care physician AND the PATIENT when the information they are inputting connects to a potential life altering health problem.  When a connection is missed between symptoms and health issues - the computer can be made to connect the dots and then to warn the doctors and the patient.  

Thank you for helping us to right this wrong in Kay's name.  Love wins
