Help Replace Stolen Photo Gear

Before I begin, I’d like to thank whoever is reading this for their time and consideration, it means the world to me. My name is Melissa and I’m regretfully starting this GoFundMe because tragedy has befallen me in my travels. Recently, all of my professional camera gear was stolen from my rental house in Costa Rica. While having a monetary value of approximately $5000, the damage strikes me in my artistic core as well as my wallet. Shortly before this occurred, a cruel twist of fate in the form of an electrical surge destroyed my laptop, a MacBook Pro, that I use to edit and produce photos and videography.
A little bit about my photo story: I studied and graduated with a degree in Commercial Photography at Appalachian State. After college and several side projects, I came into my own with the creation of DVLPD Productions. Despite being woven into all manner of media, Photography is not an easy career to pursue. I have put my heart and soul into my craft; I’ve said yes to any projects thrown my way in the interest of bettering my art. I have made it a point to go out of my way to support and uplift other photographers and creators in my community. Part of competing in the field of photography means building a reputation, and I’ve taken jobs for the much lauded exposure or experience despite already having a well-rounded professional portfolio, which is linked below. My dream is to work in photojournalism and document conflicts and their human component around the world. As the first step in this lengthy goal, I decided move abroad to the Philippines later this year. Despite my best intentions, my craft, both digital and film-based, cannot continue to evolve without the proper equipment that I am now bereft of. That is why this fundraiser seeks as it’s goal to raise sufficient money to replace my two cameras, three lenses and camera bag. Should any other monies be raised in excess, they will be used to replace the motherboard in my laptop.
Although my pride is injured, I’ve decided to put it aside and ask for some help from those that I am lucky enough to find in my life. I’m heartbroken that my documentation of my incredible journey thus far will be lost, but with your help it will not be the end, but a new beginning. I have chosen to forgive the nameless person that hindered my profession and artistic expression and seek to move forward with hope.
To all of my friends and family that have been and continue to love and support me along this long, winding road, thank you for your support.
