Katie's Breast Cancer Journey
Greetings all, thank you for checking out Katie's Go Fund Me story. My name is Jessica, and I am Katie's youngest sister.
When it comes to taking care of yourself Katie has always been the health conscience one in our family.
Katie scheduled a physical exam with no symptoms or concerns of any kind because she wanted to stay proactive in her health and wellness. During this exam, her physician found a small lump in her breast. After a biopsy, she later found it tested positive for cancer. Cancer..... that icky, scary word has rocked Katie's world and our family's world as well. At 37, Katie is diagnosed with hormonal ductile carcinoma stage 1B breast cancer.
Katie is gearing up to kick this cancers arse!!!
Being a young and healthy woman Katie opted for the lowest medical insurance coverage offered through her work. This coverage comes with an extremely high deductible. When you live a healthy lifestyle and take care of yourself, you would think that would be enough. Cancer does not discriminate. There will be lots of out of pocket expenses coming up very quickly. She is going to have missed wages at work due to low/to no PTO time-off to cover doctor appointments and surgeries. Besides the surgeries, she will have to endure radiation and hormonal treatment, which come to find out, will ultimately effect fertility. Because of this, Katie is considering freezing her eggs and other fertility options..., which will be another expense due to this frickin Cancer! This will help conserve her chance of having children someday. Fertility treatments are not covered by insurance and will be another out of pocket expense.
