Katie's Hospital Fund

For my sweet Katiebug,
My heart and eyes weigh heavy as I lay next to you in this hospital room. In my scariest of nightmares I never envisioned being here, you being so close yet so far away. I would trade places with you a thousand times over. I have watched your spark and smile be robbed by illness so swiftly. We have only just begun our battle and the enemy at hand seems so fierce. But fear not my bug for the Lord has His hand over you and no soldier on your team will fight as hard as I have and will continue to for you. My hearts beats in you and I am battling the war you can't and I will never stop.

Background:

My older sister Katie (Caitlin) fell ill starting September 18th with what she believed to be the flu. With fevers up to 105.5 she sought treatment at Simi Valley Hospital where she remains today in the intensive care unit. Her initial diagnosis of what is still believed to be a viral meningitis. She walked into the E.R. and I fearfully watched her rapid neurological decline. She went from severe weakness which was passed off as illness related to complete paralysis of her legs despite family and friends concerns within days. She was brought to ICU from a medsurg floor Wednesday when she was no longer able to move her toes, her confusion got worse and I was able to get the staff to see the utter urgency of her situation. Her MRI revealed severe swelling of her spinal cord and her mentation slipped to wear she could no longer recognize me or other family members. Her respiratory status was impaired and Thursday she was intubated with the agreed notion that she wasn't stable enough to make the transfer to a neuro specialty ICU at either USC or UCLA. It is 3am Friday morning and we are still waiting on the transfer. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from family and the friends who have become family. But it is no strange notion to any of us that our fight has just begun and we will need resources to support her ongoing care. Any bit will help with medical bills, Katie's personal bills, hotel costs for family taking care of her, the list is endless. If you are able to spare any dollar amount we would be more grateful than words can express. Please share her story so we can have the means to fight this battle well equipped.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart,

Natalia + family
