Katie’s Expedition to Borneo
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Katie and I’m currently in year 10 at School. I have recently signed up to travel to Borneo in 2020 as part of Camps International Ethical Journeys.
I will be in Borneo for four weeks; during this time I will be helping to provide schools with facilities such as kitchens. This kitchen will often provide the only meal a child will eat a day. Building kinder gardens to help improve early years education, I will also get the chance to spend time and teach some of the children.
I will be taking part in reforestation programmes - replenishing forests ravished by commercial deforestation, as well as providing communities with crops of their own to help with sustainable food.
I will also be visiting the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to see the work they are carrying out to rehabilitate and release rescued baby Orangutans from logging sites, illegal hunting or being kept as pets.
We all know an unimaginable amount of plastics and waste end up on the island’s shores. The group I am with will clear the beaches of rubbish which will provide women’s groups with the materials that they need to produce jewellery to sell.
I am scared not knowing what to expect, being away from home for a month and travelling to the unknown. However the more I have researched into it, the more it has become something I want to take part in and share with my younger siblings and maybe inspire them to do the same.
Over the next year I will be fundraising to help reach my target and I am hoping that you would support me in this challenge and help me make a difference!
I will be creating a Facebook page and you can Watch me grow, check in on my progress and of course be part of my story.
