Hi, my name is Katie. I’m 8 years old. I see the world differently to most. Meet Monty, my assistance dog. He is only with me two weeks and he is already changing my life.
Monty is two years old. He has been trained by My Canine Companion specially to help boys and girls like me. My Canine Companion do not charge a fee for providing an assistance dog, they just ask that we fund raise with them. Please help me raise €6000 for my canine companion to pay towards Monty’s training.
As a registered charity My Canine Companion receive no Government funding and rely solely on community, individual and corporate funding to be able to continue to provide Service Dogs to children and families living with Autism.
I will be extremely grateful and thankful for your help in raising funds as I benefit so much from being with Monty. He has a positive effect on the whole family. He brings me safety and independence and is helping me bond more with my brothers and sister.

I am a very happy girl and full of mischief. I am the eldest of four and have two brothers and one sister. When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with autism and a global developmental delay. I attend a special school for children with Autism, Cara Junior school. Sometimes noises bother me, or a change in environment can overwhelm me. I have not learned to speak yet so at times I can be frustrated when I can't express myself to others. My mammy and daddy try and help me as best they can. I don’t see danger and have given them a few frights!
As I live in my own world a lot of the time I find it hard to interact with others and make eye contact. Already Monty and I have built up a bond and I can't wait to get to know him better.
I don't see danger and when I see something I like I just run. This week, for the first time, I went into a shop for ice-cream without holding my Mammy's hand. Monty was attached to me, keeping me safe and ensuring I did not run into any danger.

Monty comes to my therapy sessions with me, when things get too much, he calms me down.
Until I met Monty I was afraid of dogs. Every time I met a dog I was a little curious, but more apprehensive and frightened. Monty is a special dog, gentle and very calm.
