Katie's Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
Our dear friend Katie Hofkamp (McGoldrick) is battling end-stage renal failure and needs our help!

As a freshman at Seton Academy, Katie had her first kidney transplant. This priceless gift has helped her achieve an active and “normal” life, but she’s only 35. For the past two years, husband Dan and 13-year-old son Gavin have supported her through home dialysis, endless doctor's appointments, hospitalizations, and hopeful thoughts for a kidney transplant match. Due to the complications of kidney failure, Katie’s heart experienced undue stress and she recently was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Now, we’re not only hoping for a kidney match, but also for positive news related to a heart transplant.

The average wait time for a kidney transplant is seven years. It's been two years since Katie was put back on the transplant list - we're unsure what to anticipate in the upcoming years, but don't want Katie and her family to worry about money as she battles for her life.

This is where we need your help! Her insurance will cover most of the cost associated with the transplant procedure. However, there are many pre, during and post-treatments, medications, appointments, and expenses for both Katie and her family that are not fully covered. Below are some of the anticipated costs, though it is not an exhaustive list:

Costs include:
-insurance deductibles
-insurance co-pays
-aquisition fee
-fees for the recovery of the organ from the donor
-follow-up care and testing
-additional hospital stays for complications or infections
-fees for surgeons, physicians, radiologist, anesthesiologist and recurrent lab testing
-anti-rejection and other drugs, which can easily exceed $2,500 per month
-rehabilitation
- travel, lodging, and lost wages expenses for caregiver (family) pre/post transplant.

One of the most difficult parts to account for, is the loss of wages: family members who will have to travel or take off work during the treatment and recovery process.

Transplantliving.org estimates the total costs per person for a kidney transplant and everything invloved can add up to $262,900. No donation is too small. If you cannot contribute financially, please share the link through your social media. We are eternally grateful for your support.

Please help the Hofkamps as they struggle with financial and emotional hardship.

On behalf of Katie, Dan, and Gavin, we thank you for all your support!
