Katie's Kidney Transplant Recovery

So, for those of you who don't already know her, this is Katie (and my kids).
Although she is technically my cousin, to me, she is a sister. She is an artist-vibrant, charming, fun and kind. She is also strong. Nearly eighteen years ago, Katie was diagnosed with renal failure. I watched as she endured several  months of dialysis until the testing confirming her mother as a compatible donor was complete. I witnessed her face surgery and post-operatively deal with the challenges of recovery and  the side effects of necessary anti-rejection medications. Being a middle schooler, I know that the physical challenges and changes before her must have seemed insurmountable, but she faced them with grace. Unfortunately, kidney transplants do not last forever, and seventeen years later, I feel like a kid again, practically helpless, watching as she faces these challenges once again. Aside from praying for her and trusting in God, there is, however, at least one thing I can do for her. After nine months of dialysis, Katie has been matched through a mutual friend with a woman who she had never met before but who has volunteered to be her living donor. She has undergone all necessary testing and is scheduled for a kidney transplant on August 10th. Here is where my part comes in-recovery from surgery is approximated to be between 6-8 weeks, during which time, Katie will be unable to work. I am asking that you would help during that recovery by supporting her with a financial gift of any amount, allowing her to heal and rest without the worry of how she will pay her bills during that time.
