Katie Williamson (Field) as she prepares to kick cancers ass

The news none of us ever want to receive. That C word.

Anyone who knows Katie, knows she is one of the biggest givers on the planet.
She is always the first one to celebrate when you’re winning, and the first there when you’re experiencing hard times. Someone you can trust. Someone you can count on. Always.

Last week Katie presented to emergency with pain, and as Katie expected it was her gallbladder. (This isn’t a new thing). It was decided that it was time to remove the gallbladder which is a straight forward, common operation.
This is when things unexpectedly change. Whilst the surgeon was removing the gallbladder he noticed a tumour on the appendix. So removed that as well. What was expected to be a routine short procedure turned into a three hour operation. With the news that has shaken the family to the core.
Katie spent the rest of the week as an inpatient in John Flynn having another operation and many tests to find out the extent of the disease.

Katie has been diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei (PMP) also known as jelly belly. It is a rare cancer that affects your abdomen and pelvis. It basically fills your abdomen and pelvis with cancer cells that produce mucin.

Katie after the initial shock is in good spirit is and in her own words, will kick cancers arse with a tribe.
Katie has a big recovery ahead, which will involve multiple massive abdominal surgeries (first likely being on the Gold Coast and the second will be in Brisbane) that will mean she isn’t able to work for an extended period of time.
As word has spread of Katie’s health, there has been hundreds of people reaching out asking how they can help. What can they do?
She received more flowers than new mum’s and new borns (they informed her when she was discharged) from her week stay in hospital. There was also ALOT of chocolates in her room (and Katie is overhauling all her nutrition to optimise her healing) so won’t be needing any chocolates in the future.

Now when I initially asked if I could set up a go fund me, her and Scott both said no.

However, we have convinced them to let people help. It’s way for us who wish we could do something to ease some of the pain, to make the healing process a little easier.
as you know Scott is self employed as a builder. If he doesn’t work, he doesn’t get paid.
Kate cares for others as a nurse and has done so for over two decades. The family that is ALWAYS there for anyone who needs them, for anything now needs our help.

if your in a position to give, please do and know it’s appreciated massively.
if your in a position where you can share this, so people who know the family and want to help can, please do and know it’s appreciated very much.

Katie, alongside Scott, Hunter and Benji is going to kick cancers arse. She has a few more diagnostic tests this next week and then the multidisciplinary medical team will come together to work out the treatment plan.

We will update here as Katie gives us information. She has been overwhelmed with love and support. If she has responded to your message, please know she does go through them and read them and appreciates them.

Thank you again for your support in Katie’s toughest battle yet, but Katie knows with all of our support she will be kicking its arse.

Thank you again, and please know your support is appreciated. Donations and shares.
If you would like to donate directly to their bank account, please send me a message and I’ll send you their bank details.
Every bit helps, and thankfully Katie and Scott realise this is their season to receive (even if their hesitating as they always think of others first).
