“My heart will go on. What about yours?”

That’s the question Katie asked me when I met her in 2018. It hit home hard because she said that without using words. She didn’t need to. You could just read it off her smile.

“But what does that Celine Dion song have to do with Katie?”, you might be thinking! Because some of life’s biggest battles are like the iceberg that sank the Titanic. We might struggle with the bit above the surface while warriors like Katie have overcome the mountain of ice beneath.

6 weeks! That’s what her doctors gave her to live, at birth, because she was born with a congenital heart condition! Glad the doctors got it slightly wrong, because 50 years, a heart transplant,  2 births and numerous operations later, Katie’s heart is going on…

My name is Brian Talbot and Katie Teague is a good friend of our family. Few can imagine the health issues that have plagued her life. I’m just daring to dream that there are others who might want to help author Katie’s biography, thus helping her financially and also inspiring those with critical health issues.

Katie is a married mother of two healthy boys. Throughout her marriage, Katie's husband Jeff has proved to be a solid tower of support and strength to someone who truly deserves it. That was until 2011 when he was diagnosed with a degenerative bone disease that left him disabled and unable to work.

Now Katie finds herself in the role of carer, as well as mother and homemaker with no income sources except diminishing disability payments. She is also rapidly approaching the record held for the longest survival post heart transplant.

If Katie is unable to carry on her current role, the family's problems would increase dramatically. At the same time her children are reaching an age where they will cease to be minors and her benefits will decrease further.

This fund was instituted to open new doors for Katie and her family that is struggling financially. By turning her fascinating story into a book and paving the path for her to become a motivational speaker, we hope to achieve two things:
 - To inspire other people with critical health issues and
 - To provide a small income that still allows Katie the time to perform her duties as both carer and mother.

The first $6,000 raised will be used to publish Katie’s biography, including author travel, editing, printing etc. If this amount is raised, all donors who gave $10 or more will receive a free e-copy of the book, and all who donated more than $35 will get a signed hard copy.

The next $5,000 will be used to market the book, provide public speaking training to Katie and develop a PR campaign for her. Any additional funds will be given directly to Katie and or her family to supplement their living costs and no money will be siphoned off to unnecessary administration fees.

Since birth, Katie has spent huge chunks of her life in hospitals and struggled with both pain and illness, including cancer and organ rejection treatment. Throughout these trials, her faith and sheer joy for life have never faltered. In sharing these gifts, we believe that Katie has a great deal to give to others.

In contributing to this very modest fund, we believe that you will be changing not only Katie's life, but also the lives of many other people, we are convinced, who will benefit from hearing her story. Most of us take so much for granted and it is only when exposed to someone like Katie, that we actually realize just how fortunate we really are.

Blessed with good health ourselves, we are stunned by how often she is the one that provides us with inspiration and motivation. Imagine what this could do for a critically ill patient who needs more hope for more health!

Because if you’ve read so far, you probably have the same kind of heart and love that Katie has

Because you might know someone like Katie, someone who needs to hear about Katie, someone who might be inspired to lift their chin and countenance and fight the good fight

Because you might want to read this story and be grateful and serve others better

Because sharing this story on social media might be more impactful than that meme. Because emailing Katie’s story within your circle might bring hope and healing to a soul in need. Because texting a friend about Katie might change a life, or more!

Because you might say a prayer for Katie and someone else like her that you personally know

Because a little help will go a long way and a moment of your's might matter forever

Because you can and because you might care

Because Katie’s heart will go on. What about yours?
