Katie Shouldn't Be Paying For That

If you don't know Katie Anderson, you should. If you do, you're lucky. She'd kill me if she knew I was doing this, but I don't know anyone more deserving of a helping hand than her.
Katie is one of my best friends in the world, and I am inspired by her daily. She's a 5th grade teacher at a low-income school in Tempe, Arizona, and she loves her students likely more than I will love my own children.
Being at a low-income school, her supplies are wildly limited. Most teachers would work with what they're given, but Katie puts her incredibly hard-earned paycheck back into her classroom.
Here's a short list of some things she's spent her own money on recently:
-paper
-pens
-whiteboard markers
-organizational bins
-classroom parties
-SHOES for a kid who had holes in theirs
-classroom decorations (look how cute she makes her classrooms)

Just this summer, one of Katie's past students lost their mother. Even though they are no longer in her class, Katie still takes this student and her sibling out on little dates and adventure days, because, "how could I not? They lost their mother.."
It crushes me how underpaid and under-resourced teachers are. I never realized it until I saw it through Katie, and while I can't change the whole system today, I can start with this.
I want to give back to Katie, because she takes wild pride in being a teacher and providing an amazing experience for these kids. She shouldn't have to be spending her own money on this stuff, but she does, quietly and happily. I was going to venmo her some money myself, then realized that I think (or, hope) others would get on it if I gave them the opportunity to.
