Help Kathy Mercer Get Needed Breast Cancer Treatment
This fund is for a Highland High School classmate (Highland, IN). We’ve been friends for over 50 years. Kathy served 3 years in the military as a Navy Corpsman. She treated hundreds of servicemen returning from Viet Nam with extensive injuries and continued in civilian life in a medical career. She was slowed down by a heart attack a few years ago and forced into early semi-retirement.
Kathy has been diagnosed with Stage 1 Ductcus Breast Cancer. Kathy has fallen on hard times and must travel 110-mile round trip to the Jesse Brown VA Hospital, and Hines VA Hospital in Chicago, IL for all of her treatment.
After the main lumpectomy of the “nickel-sized” lump, she will undergo weeks of radiation, going back and forth from Lake Station, Indiana to Chicago Illinois
5 times each week for a 6-week duration.
This fund will help with cost of gas, tolls, parking, some meds which may not be covered at the hospital, bandages for changing dressings on both lumpectomy and any other surrounding area surgeries which she may need, plus meals, while away from home for her and her driver (twin sister, Debby Seydel).
Kathy works part-time a few days a week to help supplement her income in her retirement years. She will lose pay for time taken off for surgery, healing, and for the 6 weeks of radiation.
Kathy has helped so many people over the course of her life and now needs a boost herself. We hope you find it feasible to send in any amount to help this cause.
