Kathy Beckstrom's Medical Fund

On Friday, December 2, Kathy had to leave school midday with a splitting headache. That week she had felt under the weather, waking up and going to bed with a headache, but Friday it had become a pain she had never felt before. Over the week-end, she put off going to the doctor until Monday, but by Monday her husband, Jorgen was not able to wake her. 

An ambulance rushed her to the hospital where they discover massive swelling of the brain and a mass in her right temporal lobe.

Amazingly, after being transferred to St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma, she awoke on Tuesday in high spirits, which she has maintained through two surgeries in the last three weeks. 

Kathy has been diagnosed with a brain cancer called glioblastoma. She and Jorgen are doing all that they can to keep her body, mind, and spirit healthy and positive. Jorgen has been by her side, helping her through every step of this process, acting as her friend, husband, and caregiver. He will now be helping Kathy through radiation treatment five days a week for the next six weeks. After the radiation treatment, a period of chemo therapy will follow.  Following that, doctors will evaluate and decide on further treatment. The total treatment period is in the vicinity of 5-6 months

Kathy and Jorgen are living off of one income right now. With large medical bills already arriving, a financial stressor has been added to their already stressful situation. 

Kathy has so appreciated the outpouring of love from those who have sent cards and flowers, as well as love and prayers.
