Kathleen Brazie, my friend, mentor, and spirit animal has been going through the cancer wringer again. Please take the time to read this and understand her situation. She doesn’t check social media a great deal, so I am hoping to have some support lined up as a surprise for her when she does.
Surgeries:
Two years ago Kathleen had major surgery and extended chemo/radiation for Stage 3 breast cancer with extensive lymph node involvement. Fast forward a few years; repeated imaging in January showed a new area of concern. After a biopsy returned positive for another cancer, she had surgery to remove the affected area. The surgeons did not get clean margins, however, and had to go back in a second time. This surgery was also unsuccessful. In order to hopefully avoid yet more invasive cancer treatment, she opted for a double mastectomy surgery.
It was a complete success!!!
The best part is that if her six month/year imaging all comes back clean, she will not be required to do additional chemo or radiation. Kathleen has been recovering the last couple weeks. Post surgery recovery involved 4 drains and lots of pain. After follow up appointments with her doctors all the drains (which she named Audrey 1, 2, 3, and 4 because they are a little shop of horrors!) have finally been removed.
Support:
Kathleen has been through a lot in just a few years, and has received a great deal of assistance during that time from her friends. She appreciates everything people have done for her, but she still needs help. Extensive missed work, lost jobs, and uncovered medical/health expenses continue to take a cumulative toll. Currently Kathleen needs help getting back and staying on her feet as she rebuilds. She is limited in her capacity for work right now as she gets back to working choreography for Beauty and the Beast, and could use any help you can offer, be that financial, friendship, or any other way you can assist this amazing woman!
