Help support Kathie’s fight!

As many of our friends and family already know, my mom Kathie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in July, 2016 after finding a lump on her breast. At the time, she was only 48 years old and seemed completely healthy. Since then, she began chemotherapy and radiation, followed by a double mastectomy. Upon completion, we were relieved to hear that she was in remission. In October 2017 my mom was having headaches and went to get it checked out at the doctor. After doing some tests, that's when we then learned that the cancer was back; this time as a brain tumor. She immediately went into surgery to have it removed and the results were optimistic and encouraging. However, in January 2018 she suddenly had some lower back pain (she thought it was a pulled muscle) which prompted another trip to the doctor. This is when things took another turn for the worse. We were informed that she now has Stage 4 cancer located in her spinal fluid, which is untreatable. We are now doing everything we can to provide the dignity and the quality of life that she deserves while she is still with us.

This particular form of cancer is also very aggressive. Within 2 weeks she was unable to walk on her own, eat, swallow, or let alone work. As her health has declined daily, she requires more care, which unfortunately costs more money. In order to continue benefits, her insurance deductibles still need to be covered. Of course this is in addition to the mountain of other medical bills that keep pouring in. Her husband, Jeff, has become her full-time caregiver since she is very limited in her abilities due to the paralysis. Rather than focusing on the heartbreak and shock of my mom's degrading condition, we are all rallying together to keep her insurance coverage current and to continue providing the care she needs.
