HELP KATE get to Rwanda

I feel extremely privileged to be asked to join the next team of doctors, nurses and pharmacists who will travel to this small African nation and perform another round of surgeries for young Rwandans living with rheumatic heart disease. The surgeries will take place from Feb 27th to March 13th 2018. It involves open heart surgery to repair or entirely replace heart valves. I will be working as a pharmacist ensuring the safe use of medications throughout and after this major procedure.
TEAM HEART is a registered non-for-profit organisation of The United States. It works directly with the Rwanda Ministry of Health to combat a health issue that causes greater disease in young people than malaria, HIV and diarrhoea combined.
Rheumatic heart disease starts by a simple infection such as a sore throat. If not treated with antibiotics, the infection damages the valves of the heart. For the young patients who are treated, without this life saving surgery, their life expectancy would be just three to four years.
Those who know me well will appreciate that asking for help is not easy for me, but this trip and this project is something I feel is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Your contribution will help go towards flights for me to get to Rwanda and return home. Anything left over will be donated to TEAM HEART to go towards expenses and supplies.
Thank you for any support you can make towards this project and personally for this eye opening experience. Especially considering I'm yet to see the inside of an international airport!
