Kate’s fight with breast cancer ❤️

Donation protected
My name is Elle and I count myself as lucky to have met Kate back in 2015. She is a thoughtful, kind and caring person whose natural instinct is to care for others. We met through our love of dogs and have been friends ever since.

In 2019 we both announced we were pregnant and so the journey began.

Kate’s story:

Kate is a nurse, a wife and her greatest gift of all becoming a mum to Willow, born on the 7th of July (5 weeks early).

In early June Kate found a lump in her breast. At 30 weeks pregnant she thought perhaps it was a blocked duct or an abscess. After appointments and biopsy’s Kate was diagnosed with breast cancer in June.

Being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32 would surely be the worst news but just a few weeks later, following a PET scan Kate was told her cancer was metastatic.

On the 20th July Kate started chemo indefinitely and so her fight begun, with a baby just 13 days old at home.

Whilst as I write this there is no detectable cancer in Kate’s body at the moment, she still has the breast cancer cells in her breast where the lump is, but the cancer is inactive at the moment. She has to continue weekly chemo for a long, long time to come to keep the cancer at bay. The doctors have said it can always come back and there’s every chance that the chemo she’s on now could stop working and then she would have to try different treatments.

Kate said “I think people expect/perceive you to look sick when you have cancer, and I think I carry it pretty well. So I feel like some people don’t understand the reality of my symptoms, and how sick I really am. It just consumes me. I literally live with the fear that it’ll come back any day, and I won’t get to watch Willow grow up.”

Kate is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future due to the nature of her treatment. The money will help ease the financial burden that both Kate and her husband Josh face and give them some breathing space to not worry about anything that they may need over the coming months.

It’ll mean Kate can continue to care for her daughter Willow and for herself as her fight continues.

Anything will be appreciated no matter how little, thank you all in advance.
