Katelyn's Service Dog

When you think of a teenage girl, what comes to mind? Girlfriends, giggles, nail painting, lots of music, high school activities, hanging out at each other’s homes sharing crushes and laughter. This is what I wish for my daughter! At times I see glimpses of this girl she could be. But mostly, I see the depression and anxiety that defines her—that keeps her in her room by herself too scared to leave. I see her on the sidelines of life as it is so paralyzing she doesn’t even go with us on family outings, to her grandparents homes, school or church.  Recently we went on a family vacation where she spent much of the time in the car or in the hotel room as she was unable to leave the safety she found there. 

After much prayer and research, we have come to believe a service dog will change her life! We have seen them work in the lives of other children with special needs and we believe she will benefit as well. After four hospitalizations in 2 years, along with 2 months in a residential treatment facility, Katelyn’s doctors also believe that a service dog would be very beneficial for her. A properly trained service dog specific to her needs requires a great deal of training and a specific temperament.  We have chosen a well regarded, experienced trainer right here in Utah who will find the right dog and train Katelyn’s service dog.  The estimated cost for a dog, his training and medical care while in training is $7,000. So we are asking our family and friends and their family and friends if you will please donate towards Katelyn’s service dog so that she can gain some freedom and safety! Every generous dollar will be appreciated! If you can’t afford to give, will you please share? We cannot wait to see our daughter living life again.
