Kate Weis Deserves a Car

Donation protected
On Saturday, Septmber 30th, Kate Weis, a 17 year old high school student from Encinitas, narrowly escaped death when having to swerve out of the way of a car that had ran a stop sign. The car, a black Range Rover, was coming at Kate head-on, oblivious to her being there. Careful to get out of the driver's way as to not hit him, Kate had no choice but to swerve out of the way from the car. In avoiding potential harm to the other driver, her car flipped over an embankment, rolled numerous times down a hill, and hit a telephone pole on the corner of Vulcan Avenue and La Costa Avenue. Her 2009 Nissan Versa's frame was destroyed, bending and crushing in numerous manners while tumbling down the cliff. All of the windows were shattered, the air bags went off, and smoke emerged from the car when it hit the telephone pole. Kate was trapped until witnesses pulled over to help her escape out of the passenger's side, as the car landed on the driver's side door, leaving Kate stranded. She was then taken immediately to Scripp's Memorial Hospital and treated for her bruises, cuts, scrapes, and any potential internal harm that may have been caused as a result of the near fatality.

The driver at fault, causing Kate this trauma, fled the scene after stopping to observe Kate's near-death fall.

Fortunately, Kate is alive and well. By some miracle, she had no broken bones or head injury; a potentially torn rotator cuff is being monitored, but we are all blessed to have Kate survive this horrific accident. She is currently in excruciating pain, and it saddens us greatly that she has to endure this suffering during an incredibly busy school year.

Kate may be okay, but her car is totaled as a result of this ordeal. In order to give back to her as a token of appreciation for all she has contributed to our community and our lives, we have decided to start a fundraiser to help Kate get back on her feet by having a car once more.  As the driver fled the scene, completely disregarding Kate's possible death, insurance cannot recover the damages to Kate's car, and her family has instead had no choice but to surrender the scraps of the car to a junkyard.

Kate is an incredible human being; not only for her ability to survive this ordeal, but largely for her ability to maintain stellar grades while being employed and leading various clubs, organizations, and events. Kate's love of life and passion for love are evident within every journey she embarks on. Amongst other positions, Kate is an employee at Oggi's Pizza and Brewing Co., a Club President of Peer Counseling, the creator of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, an organizer of an upcoming benefit concert dedicated to combatting human traficking, and a youth mentor. Naturally, someone as ambitious and dedicated as Kate deserves the tools he or she needs in order to be successful. Aside from rest and medical treatment, a mode of transportation is critical for Kate to continue this lifestyle of love, gratitude, and giving.

Cars are expensive, and we desire to alleviate some of the burden on Kate's family by contributing to her next car purchase. Any donation, no matter the size, is critical to helping Kate get back on her feet as soon as possible. Please consider sharing this fundraiser with others regardless of whether or not you know Kate! She truly deserves all of the support in the world and we refuse to let this incident get in the way of her success.

Thank you so much for taking the time to hear Kate's story. (:

Love,
Kate's friends and family
