Kate Muth

Two years ago Kate suffered complications from a Mastoidectomy (removal of bone from skull behind the ear), and has been dealing DAILY with the complications. She has doctored for the last year, trying to figure out what is wrong, trying to find answers for all the pain in her ear and face, intense pressure, vertigo, and a host of other symptoms.  It finally came to light that she has a small hole in her skull where her brain has actually herniated, or “fallen”, down into her ear cavity. She also has a leak of her cerebral spinal fluid, which causes symptoms all of its own. So she’s basically been losing the fluid that’s surrounding and protecting her brain. 

She is currently in surgery to try to fix this. They will be removing the portion of her brain that’s herniated, and patching the hole in her skull; to put it in easy terms. There is a brain surgeon, along with an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon, in the OR working on her.
